Constable Telisha Kumar

Stop thinking and just do it.

What is your current role and what does that involve?

I'm a field intelligence officer based in Auckland City District. This means I use my skills and experience gained as a frontline responder to be out in the community collecting 'Intelligence'. This involves building partnerships and identifying intelligence opportunities to better enhance police capability in Auckland City District.

What role were you doing when Women in Blue was filmed in 2015?

I was working as a first responder on the public safety team in Avondale, Auckland City District. I got to go to all kinds of emergency incidents where people needed help - jobs like family violence, burglaries, car crashes, deaths, and mental health incidents.

When did you join NZ Police?

I joined in February 2013 when I was 19 years old.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I've always been an active person; I love working out, tramping, and playing sports. I play soccer, indoor netball and basketball and I also coach young kids in soccer. One of the good things about Police is that I get to play sport against other emergency services in New Zealand and in Australia. I also like hanging out with my family and friends, watching funny movies, and going to music concerts.

Why did you become a cop?

It may sound like a cliché, but I chose to become a cop to do my bit for the community. I wanted to do something that was different and not necessarily typical for someone like me.
